Snow can prove especially challenging when trying to fight fires because in many cases it makes the fire hydrants hard to see or get to. If there’s a fire hydrant near your home that is covered with snow, please do your part to keep it visible this winter by clearing at least a three-foot radius around the hydrant so firefighters have easy access and making a path from the hydrant to the street so it can be accessible quickly. Remember, every second counts!
If you see ice around the fire hydrant it could be a leak; contact the Public Works Department immediately at (708) 343-5128.
