Triton College has secured grant funds from the state of Illinois* to offer a tuition-free education opportunity to Melrose Park residents interested in pursuing a career and earning an average of $19-$41 per hour in one of the following professions:
Sterile Processing Technician – This program prepares the student to work in the sterile processing department of a hospital or medical facility. Sterile processing technicians provide support to patient care services within a health-care facility.
EKG Technician – EKG technicians are responsible for performing electrocardiogram tests in order to monitor and record electrical impulses transmitted by the heart.
Carpentry – Carpentry Certificate graduates will be able to start in entry-level carpentry positions in a residential setting.
Plumbing – With a Plumbing Certificate graduates will be able to start in entry-level plumbing positions in a residential setting.
Medical Billing & Coding Specialist – This class prepares students for entry-level medical office positions. Students will learn to collect, analyze and manage the information that steers the health-care industry.
A+ Microcomputer Technician – The A+ Microcomputer Technician Certificate is designed to provide studentswith the skills necessary to obtain an entry-level position in the growing specialty of PC technical support.
Optician – Students will learn how to assist with vision tests, demonstrate patient care for contact lenses, administrative tasks and patient records. Students will also gain experience with contact lenses fitting.
Welding – Students are taught welding processes, such as ARC (stick), MIG (metal, inert gas), and TIG (gas tungsten arc) welding in various welding positions. In addition, students learn blueprints, other fabrication processes needed for employability and sheet metal layout/fabrication.
Automotive Engine Repair – The Engine Repair Certificate Program is designed to provide the student with skills necessary for entry-level employment at an engine repair facility.
Melrose Park Residents who have a high school diploma or high school equivalency certificate may apply for these NO-COST, short-term certificate programs by going to triton.edu/WEI. Registration is due by Jan. 21, 2020.
